Visual work

Most of my career went into products for lawyers, compliance officers, pricing analysts and procurement managers. There, the right interface is usually the calm, careful one. This page is the other side: colour, type, and things I made because I wanted to.

Life beyond
the screen

In 2022 I left Berlin and settled in the Italian Alps with my 3 cats.

Mountain life

The Italian Alps as a permanent backdrop. Slower pace, sharper thinking.

Gardening & foraging

Growing food, foraging wild plants, a grounding practice that feeds body and mind.

Hiking & skiing

Summer hiking gives way to skiing in winter. Movement as meditation.

Film photography

Capturing moments with film cameras, a slower, more intentional way of seeing.

Tapedeck

My podcast player, and its UI kit · 2026 · v3

The app

A podcast player built around series: long history runs, multi-part stories and private Patreon feeds. I designed it for how I actually listen, with sleep and meditation shows kept apart from daily listening, and I keep changing it as I use it.

Playlists, Topics and Settings sit on the left of the tab bar. Today is a round brushed-metal button on the right.

Sorrel

A field guide for foragers

The app

Sorrel helps people find, identify and use wild plants: identify a plant, cook or prepare it, see where it grows, and keep a journal of what you find. It has 4 main screens: Identify, Recipes, Map and Journal.

It started as a portfolio piece about component libraries generated with AI from a moodboard and a short brief. Now I’m building it as a real app.

Component library

8 custom elements and one set of design tokens. 4 colours: forest, blossom, linen and lime, plus caution and danger tones used only for safety alerts. Apfel Grotezk for titles, a libre grotesque with soft, squarish curves, and Mulish for everything else. Cards use an arched shape, like a specimen plate.

Dogear

Audiobooks and ebooks, on phones, tablets and e-ink readers

The app

Dogear is a listening and reading app for audiobooks and ebooks. Your library is sorted by genre, search covers titles, authors, chapters and words, and the You tab tracks your year: time with books, a reading goal and a sticker book you fill as you go.

The idea for the look: quiet pages, loud little stickers. Paper-white surfaces and soft sunset gradients, with small full-colour stickers that each carry one meaning. It has 3 themes: light, dark and e-ink.

Sample screens

The same app on an e-ink reader: no gradients or shadows, black outlines, stickers in greyscale so their shapes still carry the meaning.

Component library

17 components in 3 themes: light, dark and e-ink. Jost for the interface, DM Mono for labels and timestamps, Literata only for reading. 32 line icons and 8 sticker shapes, and every text colour passes contrast in all 3 themes.
